Valve heeft bekend gemaakt binnenkort de overstap te zullen maken naar 64-bit Source gaming. De eerste games die geoptimaliseerd zullen worden voor 64 bit cpu’s zullen respectievelijk Half-Life 2 en Half-Life 2: The Lost Coast zijn. Valve probeert zo in te spelen op de nieuwste AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX processor-based systems die sneller zouden lopen in combinatie met de Source engine.
“Bringing the Source technology to the AMD64 processor platform is an important step in the evolution of our game content and tools,” said Gabe Newell, Valve’s co-founder and president. “This investment in future processing will allow us, and third party developers working with Source, to push the boundaries of the gaming experience.”
