De Xbox 360 zal binnenkort waarschijnlijk een externe HD DVD drive gaan krijgen. Hierdoor hebben de huidige bezitters van de Xbox 360 dus ook de mogelijkheid om deze media af te spelen. Waarschijnlijk zal Microsoft de HD DVD speler op de Consumer Electronics Show (CES) gaan introduceren. Het zou vooralsnog enkel bedoeld zijn om films af te spelen in de console, eventuele HD DVD games zijn nog niet aangekondigd en die zullen ook nog bij lange na niet gaan verschijnen.
